Teaching Resources

Teachers comments - Primary level

We had a very busy week and I was unable to get into our ICT for a lot of the time. We don’t have internet access in our classrooms so it had to be in there. The children were very excited about the website and enjoyed looking around it. The majority liked looking at the pictures and the stories being read were very interesting for them. Though most children became obsessed with the little boy who had wet the bed.

We talked about all the different sections and had a go at the Time Tourist part of the website. The majority of children struggled to pick out the points from the story to answer the questions. Children were confused by the word incident at first. Also the sheet asked what had happened in the hours before the incident, but in some cases it was days, weeks or months before the incident and some didn’t seem to have an incident. e.g. Church Street. In the end I had to let children just explore the website and not worry about the worksheet. Having noted these issues, some children did succeed in completing the worksheet.

I feel, after using the website with my class, that this is very useful website with great information and resources. I wonder if there may a need to be differentiated worksheets for KS1/KS2/KS3/KS4 which would link with the pages.

On the other hand I still feel I could use this website resource with my class when we come to teaching this topic again in September. It would be useful to use as a stimulus for different elements of the war topic and getting children to focus on the bigger picture. This website would also be valuable to use in the classroom setting but this is not possible in our school as yet.
