2.1 Using the Image Bank
2.1a Navigating the Image Bank
Viewing all images
By default, when viewing the Image Bank all images from both Hartlepool and Swansea are shown.
Viewing only Hartlepool or only Swansea images
On the right of the Image Bank page heading, there are three view options: All Images ( shown by default ), Hartlepool Images and Swansea Images. Selecting either Hartlepool Images or Swansea Images will show only images from that category.
Viewing one image in detail
Clicking on any of the image thumbnails shown in the Image Bank section will take you to the associated text article and a larger version of the image thumbnail.
This page will also allow you to download Writesheets, which are available on a selected number of articles in the Whats the Story section of the website (Activated by clicking “Save Writesheet”).
These documents are printable Microsoft Word files to be used in the classroom. Suggested uses of these documents can be found in the Teachers section of the website.
Viewing the next and previous images
At any point whilst browsing the images in the Image Bank section of the website, you will see links for Previous Image and Next Image located at the top right of the page. Clicking on either previous image or next image will cycle through the available gallery images.
2.1b Listening to the accompanying image text
Articles may contain extra content such as a spoken version of the article text and can be activated by clicking on “Listen”.
2.1c Printing the accompanying image and text
You may wish to print an article for reference, the Print button activates your web browsers Print function. This will assign the default print style sheet and print the image with the accompanying text.
Note: This will only work if you have a printer attached to your computer or network.
2.1d Saving the larger version of the image
You may wish to save the image at its original size, this is useable for printing off as a teaching aid or can be used for projection. You can save this image by clicking “Large Image”.
Teachers Help
Required Software & Software Downloads
You may require 3rd party software to view some of the interactive content on the site. For instance, Flash is used for the spoken text throughout the site. Powerpoint is used for the presentation files, Adobe Reader is used for reading PDF documents, Microsoft Word is used for Writesheets. You can download some of these for free.

Adobe Acrobat Reader ( Worksheets are offered in PDF Format as an alternative to Microsoft word )

We have attempted to make this website accessible to all users, in order to do so, we have attempted to comply to W3 standards and guidlines which are explained below.
Accessibility Standards Compliance
With compliance to W3C standards, all pages on this site validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict . The validation program can determine with 100% accuracy whether a page is valid XHTML. There are elements we may purposely use that will make certain pages contain warnings or fail the validation process.

Page styling and design
Every page in the site uses Cascading Style Sheets for visual styling and layout. Page content is still readable for browsers that do not support the display of Cascading Style Sheets.
All images used in page content contain descriptive alternative text when images cannot be displayed. All images used for design or decoration contain no alternative text.
All links on the site are worded to make sense out of context and contain title attributes which describe the link in more detail where necessary.
